On International, National and local levels, Soroptimists have been active in the efforts to stop Human Trafficking

STOP Human Trafficking: 2009 Community Forum Series

In support of our mission to end violence against women and girls, Raleigh Soroptimists hosted a community forum series to stop human trafficking.  Topics discussed were:

North Carolina has many of the characteristics that attract and promote an environment for human trafficking: tourism, agriculture, military presence, and interstate highways.

Human Trafficking Awareness and Action Card

An immediate outcome of the Community Forum was the production of an awareness and action card.  Soroptimist International of Raleigh, in partnership with the Woman’s Club of Raleigh, produced  this card which is now distributed by PATH NC to first responders and other community groups.

pathnc-pic2Raleigh Soroptimist also spearheaded the establishment of PATH NC (Partners Against Trafficking Humans in NC).  This non-profit is a consortium of groups whose mission is to  work together to limit, and ultimately, end this plague on our society.   As a founding partner, Soroptimist International of Raleigh is pleased to support the efforts of this group.

  End Teen Dating Violence

bookmsrkTeenagers are especially vulnerable to dating violence because they don’t always have a clear understanding of healthy vs. unhealthy relationships. To raise awareness among teenagers about teen dating violence, Soroptimist has created the Soroptimist Teen Dating Violence Bookmark along with a Teen Dating Violence White Paper.

In conjunction with an InterAct program promoting healthy relationships, close to 20,000 of these bookmarks have been distributed in middle and high schools in Wake County .

Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence

Through this awareness campaign, Soroptimist addresses domestic violence as a workplace concern.

Read our white paper: Domestic Violence as a Workplace Concern to examine the ways that domestic violence can affect the workplace, and what businesses can do to keep their employees safe.
